About us
The De Portola Wine Trail™ is the family winery association of the De Portola Estate Wineries™. The Trail captures the true essence of what wine tasting should really be about: Great Wines and Great Times! That is why the De Portola Wine Trail™ family of wineries sticks by its roots, and that is all good wine tastes even better when surrounded by friends and family. The wine created in Temecula Valley Wine Country and its beautiful landscape full of lush plants and rolling hills, create the atmosphere that should accompany any good wine tasting event.
One look and you will know why great wine grows in the Temecula Valley.
The Trail offers a serene escape on the valley’s southeastern end, on a five-mile hillside road lined with vineyards, oak trees and horse ranches. The location of each winery makes The Trail accessible and convenient for visitors. Each winery offers a unique personality, from rustic charm to modern elegance, and from an Italian palazzo to a subterranean wine cave. The Trail’s picturesque valley and 11 distinctive wineries nestle themselves amid the rolling hills and offer something for everyone.
Winery owners or staff are often available to show guests their wine-making process, sharing the history of their winery and individual winemaking styles. If you experience The Trail, you will experience authentic California wine tasting.

Temecula Valley
The great California wine sensation began as vineyards at missions in San Diego around the turn of the 18th century. Each new mission that was established also established its own vineyards and wine making processes. Wine making became a staple of Southern California life and was, at the time, the lead wine production area of the state. This continued until the mid 19th century when Northern California became the lead wine producer in the region. A wine revival came about in the Temecula Valley Region in the late 1960’s, and by 1968 an immense amount of wine grapes had been planted in the region.
Temecula Valley Wine Country is one of the most beautiful landscapes in Southern California; with rolling hills, high mountains, and remarkable landscaping, you will forget you are anywhere but the Golden State. The Temecula Valley Wine Region has proven to be a diverse and unique habitat that has lead to a myriad of thriving grapes that grow well in the Mediterranean climate such as Riesling, Chardonnay, Merlot, Sauvignon Blanc, and Tempranillo, just to name a few. The weather and the landscape combined together produce an amazing experience that is unmatched by few other areas across the globe.
The landscape alone provides sufficient backdrop to a perfect wine-tasting experience but is not the only temptation to consider. Providing the wineries substantial additional services to compliment the experience, many gourmet restaurants and luxury resorts have opened in the area.
